Diesel misfueling is more common in the UK and Europe due to the number of vehicles with diesel engines.  Commonly each year 150,000 or more misfueling incidents occur.  As a result there are thousands of pounds lost for the average business or individual.  It is more common for fleets to lose money than the individual based on the number of trucks, cars, or vans they have to fuel.

You might be wondering why diesel misfueling is such a bad thing if you don’t own a fleet or have never owned a diesel engine vehicle.  Diesel is a heavier fuel to be used in a car.  In a diesel engine the air compresses the fuel pushing it into the engine in order to burn.  When it compresses the heavier properties of the fuel are strained by the filter.  In a gas powered vehicle the gas moves to the engine which is ignited by the spark plugs and it burns.  When you mix gas with diesel fuel you will lower the heavy concentration of the diesel.  This means the diesel engine is unable to compress at the right amount.  Eventually the engine stops working and quits.  There is also the matter of using the diesel for lubrication.  In the injector pump diesel lubricates the injectors.  If it is watered down it will not lubricate correctly, causing a break of the injectors.
